AFTER PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE NEGLECTS NEEDS OF RURAL AMERICANS, GRASSROOTS GROUPS LAUNCH AD CAMPAIGN IN PA BATTLEGROUND COUNTIES TO DEFEAT TRUMP
Chester County, PA — Pennsylvania Stands Up, a progressive grassroots organization with nine local chapters around the state has collaborated with People’s Action Power and Local Voices to announce an ad buy in rural Pennsylvania counties to defeat Donald Trump. The ad features the story of lifetime Pennsylvania resident Dave McLimans. Dave is a career steelworker and United Steelworkers member in Coatesville, PA, home to the country’s oldest continuously operating steel mill. The ad will air over TV, billboards, and internet in Dauphin, Lehigh, Berks, Chester, Montgomery, Lackawanna, and Luzerne counties.
By airing the ad in areas that Pennsylvania Stands Up is currently deep canvassing, the organizations have created a one-of-kind 360 degree voter engagement strategy.
“Trump won Pennsylvania in 2016 and left workers like Dave McLimans in the dust,” PA Stands Up Executive Director Hannah Laurison said. “Trump doesn’t really care about Pennsylvania or the rural communities that make up our state. We need to be doing everything we can to defeat Trump, and that starts by listening to people like Dave.”
Alongside traditional calling and texting methods, PA Stands Up has worked to sway voters in this key swing state with a strategy that recent research suggests is uniquely effective at changing people’s minds when it comes to political dispositions and prejudices. Deep canvassing has been shown to be 102 times more effective than the average presidential persuasion program to sway voters. On the ground, it’s working: more than 20% of persuadable voters report having their opinions moved during Pennsylvania Stands Up’s deep canvassing conversations.
“He talks about a rigged system, but Donald Trump took advantage of the bankruptcy laws. What about us, we average working people who pay our taxes? The big guys get to walk away with the millions, while the little guy sits back and sweats,” Chester County resident Dave McLimans said. “We can’t afford 4 more years of Donald Trump. Our future is at stake. It’s up to us to defeat Donald Trump and get Pennsylvania working again.”
The unique partnership between PA Stands Up, People’s Action Power and Local Voices allows for a highly targeted, multi-layered 360-degree voter engagement campaign that utilizes the best assets of all three organizations to amplify the voices of Pennsylvanians planning to vote blue this election cycle. While PA Stands Up continues to pioneer their deep canvassing calls across the state, Local Voices films ads featuring local conservative messengers, often lifelong Republicans, who are rejecting Trumpism. Their ad is then distributed to digital, TV, print, billboard and radio media circulating within the messenger’s home and neighboring counties.
