Happy Women’s History Month!
This month, we’re celebrating women and femme presenting folks and their impact on our movement toward a state, country, and world that works for all of us.
Women and femmes have been organizing toward liberation for decades, and our movement is far stronger because of them. From civil rights to women’s suffrage to reproductive freedom to LGBTQ+ rights, women and femmes have put their bodies on the line and done so much of the invisible labor behind the scenes to secure rights we take for granted today. Two of the highest ranking political figures in PA’s state government are women. The possibilities are unlimited. PASU champions such as Lancaster County Commissioner Alice Yoder, PA State House Representative Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, Allentown City Council member Ce-Ce Gerlach, and Allentown City Council member Natalie Santos are paving the way for more femmes in positions of power.
You can hear from Taylor and Eliza, two of our kick ass Black women organizers here at PASU in our most recent episode of the News You Can Use podcast where they reflect on Black History Month, share what’s bringing them hope, and discuss ways to create more inclusive spaces as the Federal Government dismantles DEI programs. One of many organizers who inspire us, Angela Davis, wrote, “It is in collectivities that we find reservoirs of hope and optimism.”
Davis’s words are especially relevant right now with the Trump administration’s attempt to “flood the zone” and overwhelm us with new attacks on working people, especially our neighbors in marginalized communities, every day.
We won’t back down.
We will learn from our movement ancestors who successfully built collective resilience through community when their rights were under attack. They showed us that when we all do our part and come together across our differences, we win. We will find hope and optimism in each other, and together, we will fight for the safety, dignity, and resources we all need to thrive.
It’s going to take all of us, including you! Join us and become a member of PA Stands Up today!! Already a member? Join us for an upcoming event!
In community,
