Monday, June 10th was proof that when we come together, we can get the resources our communities need to thrive, not just survive. The PA House passed House Bill 2370, which includes a seven year plan to provide money to school districts previously deprived of funding they need to provide students with a constitutionally required comprehensive, effective, and contemporary education. The bill also clarifies and reforms current law to hold cyber charter schools accountable and ensure student safety. This is a major win for PA public schools, families, and students! Our children deserve to live in a PA that works for all of us, and that starts with adequately funded, good quality public school education.
In solidarity with our closest friends, the All Eyes On Yass coalition came together Monday to demand our elected officials choose our kids over billionaire Jeffrey Yass’s money. Over 250 Pennsylvanians participated in accountability visits. We requested to speak with four state senators who have accepted thousands in donations from Yass – Jarrett Coleman, Scott Martin, Kim Ward, and Anthony Williams. None of them spoke with us directly, but we spoke with staff and got our message across: taxpayers want to invest in our communities, not billionaires.
Yass is pushing to enact a school voucher program that would put taxpayer money toward private schools that he profits from. This would take money away from our public schools and into the pockets of billionaires. Our public schools need resources, and our kids deserve safe and equitable access to public education.
Let’s come together to strengthen our communities and demand our state senators and representatives vote NO to Yass’s school vouchers. Write to your elected officials here!
