News You Can Use: Election Edition 10/18

PA Stands Up

News You Can Use to get involved in this election the week of October 18th!

Election Day is three weeks from today and before we tell you about all the ways to get plugged in, we wanted to remind you what’s at stake for our families this fall.

In 2020, thousands of PA Stands Up volunteers helped defeat Donald Trump and send Joe Biden to the White House. Since then, we’ve seen some big gains for working class people. We saw a major covid relief bill that included a child tax credit, sent relief money directly to families, and will create good jobs. We saw President Biden ensure government forgiveness of $10,000 in student loan debt. And we witnessed the largest climate action bill in US history (even if we still have a LOOOOONG way to go).

We could have won so much more, too, if it weren’t for Sens. Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema standing in the way. What we’ve seen in the Senate again and again over the last two years is the power of just ONE to TWO votes in determining whether we can win big change. Universal Pre-K, free community college, extending the child care credit, passing paid family leave, creating a clean climate corps — all those things fell off the table because we didn’t have enough champions for working class folks in the Senate.

That’s why it’s so important that Pennsylvanians send John Fetterman to Washingington. He could be the difference maker — the ONE vote — we needed to make many of those things happen. And if he loses, it could mean Republicans have the one vote they need to roll back the progress that’s been made over the last few years.

There’s so much happening in the world right now and none of us know for sure what will happen in November. What we do know is that one vote matters — and that it’s up to us to elect leaders who will fight for our families.
