Last night, Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 felony charges of falsifying business records to cover up his sex scandal, making him the first former president and major-party presidential candidate in United States history to be convicted of felony crimes. Trump is still facing three more sets of charges related to his mishandling of classified documents, election fraud, and his attempts to overturn the 2020 election. This first verdict is a critical step on the pathway to accountability on behalf of everyday Americans, and a reminder of how important our work to come is. We cannot stand by as lying, corrupt criminals like Trump continue to meddle in our political systems.
Pennsylvania is a key swing state in the upcoming presidential election, and wealthy billionaires like Jeffrey Yass are trying to buy their candidate’s path to victory with over $70 million in campaign spending in PA this year alone. Yass is also on Trump’s list for treasury secretary should he win the election. The alliance between PA billionaires and national authoritarians is dangerous and has historic implications for rising fascism in our country. Throughout history, when fascists come to power, it is often with the support of the ultra-wealthy. In Yass and Trump’s America, billionaires can buy our elections, write policies that harm us, and steal our tax dollars to fill their coffers.
When we come together across race, place, and generation, we make our voices heard. On June 10th, we’re heading to Harrisburg to fight for a free and fair democracy that works for all of us, not just for right-wing billionaires like Jeffrey Yass. Mobilize with us and our partners in the PAYBAC (Pennsylvanians Against Yass, Billionaires, And Corporations) coalition on Monday, June 10! Reply to this email with any questions about the mobilization. We can’t wait to see you there!
