With the election less than four weeks away, we have democracy defense on our minds.
The legal term “Notice and Cure” refers to a process in which a party receives notice of a breach/mistake and is given a specific amount of time to fix it. Notice and Cure policies help us ensure every mail-in vote counts and all PA voters are heard at the ballot box.
This gives parties an opportunity to let voters know they need to correct an error on their mail-in ballot before it’s too late for their vote to be counted. The RNC is already working on prohibiting Notice and Cure in Pennsylvania. If Republicans are successful, Pennsylvanians who make common mistakes on their mail-in ballot, like not dating it correctly, forgetting to sign it, or not putting it in the outer envelope, could lose their opportunity to vote in November!
In Pennsylvania, Notice and Cure policies differ from county to county. The ACLU of PA has compiled an interactive map (pictured above) of which counties in PA have Notice and Cure policies. Know where your county stands, and contact your Board of Elections if they don’t have a Notice and Cure policy! Then let us know, so we can help amplify the need for Notice and Cure in your county. Every vote matters, and every voter deserves to be heard.
Check your voter registration today, and make your plan to vote! It’s already October 10th! Remember, October 21st is the last day to register to vote in PA. Do it now!! October 29th is the last day to request a mail-in ballot, and the sooner you mail it back or put it in a ballot drop box, the better! If you’re voting in person, remember Election Day is November 5th. Polls are open 7AM-8PM. If you’re in line before 8PM you can still vote, so stay in line!!!
It’s up to all of us to get out the vote for candidates up and down the ballot this season. Remember to check the back of your mail-in ballot for local races! Let’s fight for a PA that works for all our communities together.
Join our new Deep Canvass Lead, Ezra, and knock doors for the Harris and Walz campaign every Friday in Lancaster or every Saturday until election day! Don’t live near Berks or need a virtual option? Join us for deep canvass phone banks on Thursdays from 5 to 8 PM with People’s Action to have compassionate conversations with fellow Pennsylvanians about this upcoming election.
