It’s Duncan from Lancaster Stands Up and I’m currently occupying the office of my state Senator, Scott Martin. I’m here in his office with dozens of fellow PASU and LSU members, while LVSU members are down the hall occupying Senator Jarrett Coleman’s office. We’re joined by our partners in the All Eyes on Yass Coalition who are also holding it down in the offices of Senate President Kim Ward and Senator Anthony Williams. 150+ of us from across the state are here to ask these four elected officials—who have taken hundreds of thousands worth of political contributions from right-wing political donor and the state’s richest man, Jeffrey Yass—to say no to the billionaire’s agenda to privatize schools and keep taxes low for the state’s wealthiest people.
Most Pennsylvanians want their tax dollars to fund K-12 public education, housing repairs, and to fight climate change. But the leaders whose offices we are occupying right now aren’t listening to us. They are doing the bidding of the state’s richest man–to privatize schools and give the rich tax breaks. No one in public office should take money from billionaire Jeff Yass. Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, Yass has aligned himself with forces funding hate, trying to overturn our democracy and seeking to disenfranchise Black and Brown voters.
Elected officials who have taken Yass’s money must be accountable to the needs of the working people of Pennsylvania, not to the agenda of our state’s richest man. All elected officials should #SayNoToYass and his privatizing and profiteering agenda by rejecting the voucher scam and instead fully funding our schools.
Take 30 seconds right now and use this tool to send a letter to your representatives demanding they prioritize funding for Pennsylvania’s public education system and reject private school voucher programs in all their forms. Then sign up for one of our upcoming chapter events to join me at the next action!
In Solidarity,
Duncan – Lancaster Stands Up Organizer
PS. To continue fighting against billionaires like Yass from rigging the rules, we’ve gotta keep up the pressure. Can you chip in to help us get billionaire money out of PA politics?
