Ending Solitary Confinement in Lackawanna County

2022-2023

During the summer of 2022, NEPA Stands Up collected 13,665 signatures over 7 weeks from Lackawanna County voters to amend the Home Rule Charter and end the barbaric practice of solitary confinement in the Lackawanna County Prison.

While our question was ultimately kept off the ballot, our initiative gave a voice to our incarcerated neighbors, many of whom have been subjected to solitary confinement. We know that people who are in power will do anything to stay in power, which is why we’re currently awaiting a decision from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in our case against the Lackawanna County Board of Elections and Commissioners.
