Make Your Voice Heard, Write a Letter to the Editor
One of the most effective ways to put pressure on elected officials is to raise awareness among their constituents with letters to the editor (LTE). Local newspapers feature readers’ viewpoints both in their print and online editions.
Writing a LTE is not difficult, but the chance of having yours published increases dramatically if you know a few things about the process.
- Be specific: focus your letter on a single issue, vote, or action to write about.
- Be concise: each paper has its own word count limits; abide by them!
- Be passionate but civil: don’t let your letter turn into a rant
