Change takes time and this movement is just getting started. But what we saw in the primary election on May 18 is that we can take on the political establishment and create a government of, by and for working people of all races.
The results of last month’s primary election show that Berks County is ready to elect leadership that works for all of us. Berks Stands Up is building grassroots power at the local and statewide level by electing candidates who will push hard for bold, transformative change, and make Pennsylvania work for working people.
Running in the general election for Reading City Council will be two bright young people ready to work for change – Brianna Tyson and Wesley Butler. They will be striving to create a community where there is opportunity for young residents and a care system and economy that supports the vulnerable in our community.
In addition to Brianna Tyson, Berks Stands Up endorsed candidates in Wyomissing, PA had a successful night, including Adrian Jadic, who won his primary for Wyomissing Borough Mayor, and Jana Barnette , Katie Maher, Jen Reimer, and Jacqueline Torres who won their primaries for the Wyomissing Borough Council.
We’ve got our eyes on November. A lot is at stake for working people in Berks. These local elections are important for the quality of life in our communities.
Two other endorsed candidates Jess Royer and Lizette Epps will be facing tough opponents for the race for Spring Township Supervisor in the general election. We fully intend to lend our support to those campaigns. We will always stand with candidates who will strengthen the mandate for progressive change .
Berks Stands Up has a legacy of advocating for the vulnerable people in our community. Many of our elderly, refugees, children, unhoused and people of color have their voice compromised and power stripped away in our current system.
Far right conservative political groups have gripped our county, perpetuating lies, ignoring science and spreading toxic rhetoric. This election showed the power of the people to fight back against the lies that drive our community apart. We can come together around a set of values and progress.

These candidates are committed to pursue bold policy solutions at the scale of the crisis our communities face — and that’s why they won. We’re building the grassroots power at the local and statewide level to elect candidates from school board to city council who will push hard to make Pennsylvania a place where all of us can thrive.
