News You Can Use - Election Edition 11/1

November 2, 2022

News You Can Use to get involved the week of Nov 1, with just one week to go until election day!

As we head into the homestretch, we're regrounding ourselves in what's at stake for our families this election. Reproductive rights, the freedom to vote, living wage jobs, environmental protections, and public education are on the line. That's why we're signing up for extra shifts between now and election day. We don't want to look back on November 9th and wish we'd done more.

Here's the thing: every vote counts. You only get to vote once, but when you spend your time talking to your co-workers, friends, family, and neighbors, you have an opportunity to make a bigger difference in this election. Each conversation we have with a potential voter matters: if you change just one person's mind, you may turn one vote for our values into two — and that is HUGE. We know that many of the elections happening next Tuesday will be decided by a razor thin margin, from races for state legislator all the way to the race for US Senate.

More than that, though, each conversation we have allows us to build deeper relationships with the people in our community. Crooked politicians, wealthy donors, and divisive media personalities spend millions of dollars and thousands of hours trying to turn us against one another. They tell us the problem is the person on the other side of the tracks or in the next town over. But when we take the time to talk with one another, we can help one another see that working class people have a shared stake in coming together to confront the wealthy and the powerful in order to build an America for all of us.

So, let's get out there and knock on some doors and make some calls.

In solidarity,

—Ashleigh, Edwin, and Jacob for PA Stands Up
